The solemn canonization of Elderess Matrona was performed on  may 2, 1999 by the service of the Holy Patriarch of Moscow Alexy II. The Early liturgy and following last retes for Mother Matrona were served in the bottom part of the church at midnight. The great many of  prayers stayed at the Convent till morning in order to participate in the celebration of her glorification. People were coming to bow onto the Holy relics throughout the night, and there was a big queue formed by the morning.

The following morning Partiarch Alexy II declared the act of sanctification of Blessed Matrona of Moscow (Martona Dimitrievna Nikonova, 1881-1952) from the ambon:                                                     

The act of canonization of Elderess Matrona Hereby establish:

1. To canonize Elderess Matrona of Moscow for local church commemoration in Moscow city and Moscow Diocese.

2. The Holy relics of Blessed Matrona of Moscow, which are placed in Stauropegic Pokrov Convent of Moscow, from now on call The Holy relics and give it proper worship.

3. To honor the memory of Blessed Matrona of Moscow in the day of her death - April 19 (May 2).

4. To draw up a special service for newly glorified Blessed Matrona of Moscow and before drawing up one to conduct general religious service on the rank of righteous.

5. To paint an icon of the newly glorified blessed Matrona of Moscow for worship according to the definition of the Seventh Ecumenical Council

6. To print the Life of Blessed Matrona of Moscow for edification in godly living for sons of God.

7. To ensure the definition in question is brought to the attention of clerics, pious orthodox parishes and monasteries of Moscow and Moscow Diocese.

The chorus for the first time has started singing a troparion to Holy Blessed Matrona. Then Primate has made the first prayer at a silver shrine with the relics, which were established in the lower church of the Pokrov temple. After this memorable day on the regular basis, the prayer with the acathistos is being made in the convent upon completion of a liturgy in front of the shrine with Holy relics of the newly glorified Blessed Elderess Matrona.
